Abstract:Light-sheet microscopy stands out as a powerful tool in biological imaging due to its exceptional performance in fluorescence imaging. However, achieving both high sectioning performance and a vast field of view (FOV) poses a fundamental challenge in conventional light-sheet microscopy. The light-sheet thickness is typically constrained to 1 mu m for a wide FOV, potentially compromising resolution. To address this limitation, an axial scanning light-sheet microscopy (ASLM) technique integrated with aberration-free tunable foci to enable high-NA excitation while maintaining a generous FOV, is introduced. The proposed scheme successfully achieves isotropic resolution of 280 nm in a 3D imaging system, encompassing a FOV of 80 x 80 mu m and an impressive imaging speed of 80 ms per frame. These remarkable characteristics underscore the immense potential of ASLM for high- spatiotemporal resolution imaging. Light-sheet microscopy is a powerful tool in biological imaging, but achieving high sectioning performance and large field of view (FOV) is still a challenge. The axial scanning light-sheet microscopy with aberration-free tunable foci addresses this limitation, achieving isotropic resolution of 280 nm in 3D with FOV of 80 x 80 mu m, highlighting its potential for high spatiotemporal resolution imaging. image

Abstract:For many chemical reactions, it remains notoriously difficult to predict and experimentally determine the rates and branching ratios between different reaction channels. This is particularly the case for reactions involving short-lived intermediates, whose observation requires ultrafast methods. The UV photochemistry of bromoform (CHBr3) is among the most intensely studied photoreactions. Yet, a detailed understanding of the chemical pathways leading to the production of atomic Br and molecular Br-2 fragments has proven challenging. In particular, the role of isomerization and/or roaming and their competition with direct C-Br bond scission has been a matter of continued debate. Here, gas-phase ultrafast megaelectronvolt electron diffraction (MeV-UED) is used to directly study structural dynamics in bromoform after single 267 nm photon excitation with femtosecond temporal resolution. The results show unambiguously that isomerization contributes significantly to the early stages of the UV photochemistry of bromoform. In addition to direct C-Br bond breaking within <200 fs, formation of iso-CHBr3 (Br-CH-Br-Br) is observed on the same time scale and with an isomer lifetime of >1.1 ps. The branching ratio between direct dissociation and isomerization is determined to be 0.4 +/- 0.2:0.6 +/- 0.2, i.e., approximately 60% of molecules undergo isomerization within the first few hundred femtoseconds after UV excitation. The structure and time of formation of iso-CHBr3 compare favorably with the results of an ab initio molecular dynamics simulation. The lifetime and interatomic distances of the isomer are consistent with the involvement of a roaming reaction mechanism.

Abstract:With the rapid advancement of multi-band detection technologies, military and civilian equipment face an increasing risk of being detected, posing significant challenges to traditional single-band camouflage designs. To address this issue, this study presents an innovative multilayer structure using Ge, Cu, and ZnSe materials to achieve triple-band infrared camouflage, visible camouflage, and radiative cooling. The structure exhibits low emissivity in the short-wave infrared (SWIR, 1.2-2.5 mu m), mid-wave infrared (MWIR, 3-5 mu m), and long-wave infrared (LWIR, 8-14 mu m) bands, with values of 0.23, 0.11, and 0.27 respectively, thus realizing effective infrared camouflage. Additionally, it efficiently radiates heat in the non-atmospheric window (epsilon5-8 mu m epsilon 5 - 8 mu m = 0.62). By adjusting the thickness of the top ZnSe layer, the structure can achieve visual camouflage against various backgrounds, significantly enhancing its effectiveness. The total thickness of the multilayer structure is only 1.33 mu m, and it is deposited on a flexible polyimide substrate via electron beam evaporation, providing remarkable deformation capability to meet camouflage needs in various complex environments. Experimental results show that, under an input power density of 1097 W/m2, 2 , the apparent temperature of the structure is reduced by about 10 degrees C compared to the commonly used engineering material titanium alloy (TC4), significantly reducing the detection range and demonstrating excellent infrared camouflage performance. This study also highlights the broad application prospects of this innovative multi-band camouflage material in both military and civilian fields, particularly its ability to flexibly adapt to different environments and conditions. Abstract:We analytically derive the formulas of the threshold pump intensity and the range of possible detuning for the initiation of the pure quar tic platicon (PQP) in the presence of multiphoton absorption, free-carrier absorption, and free-carrier dispersion. Theoretical investigations demonstrate a feasible approach for the excitation of PQP in the normal quar tic dispersion regime via the free-carrier effects in platforms such as silicon, germanium, and their derivates. Due to the time-variant nonlinear loss related to free-carrier absorption or additional nonlinear detuning induced by free-carrier plasma dispersion, PQP can be generated through turn-key or laser frequency scanning schemes in both the three- and four-photon absorption regimes. Parameter spaces associated with varying detuning and free-carrier lifetime for the different dark, oscillating, and bright PQP states are revealed in the turn-key generation case. Such solitonic pulses are more energetic than conventional quadratic solitons with the same pulse width, especially for shorter pulse operations. In the spectral domain, PQP microcombs in the mid-infrared are desired for spectroscopy. These findings will facilitate the generation and manipulation of PQP and present promising potential for Kerr microcomb related applications.

Abstract:The narrow bandgap semiconductor Sb2S3 has been extensively utilized in solar cells for its impressive light absorption coefficient and carrier mobility. However, a large number of deep energy defects provide carrier recombination sites that limit its photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance. In this study, Sb2S3 nanorods (NRs) and CdSe quantum dots (QDs) were successfully prepared, and Sb2S3/CdSe-annealed quasi-one-dimensional heterojunction photoanodes with the S-scheme were constructed. The Sb2S3/CdSe-annealed composite photoelectrode achieves a 12 times increase in photocurrent density compared to the 0.4 mA cm-2 of the Sb2S3 photoelectrode. Overall, the synergistic effect of the [hk1]-oriented Sb2S3 NRs and the S-scheme heterojunction promotes carrier transport, achieving a spatial separation of photogenerated carriers and efficiently weakening the recombination of the electron-hole pair. This study provides a simple method for the low-cost development of Sb2S3 NRs with [hk1] orientation and an idea to enhance its development in the PEC water splitting direction.

Abstract:Speckle cross-correlation imaging (SCCI) method has the depth-resolved capability, benefiting from the introduction of a reference point. However, the quality of the reconstructed image is degraded due to the background noise, which becomes more prominent when imaging through dynamic scattering media. Here, we propose a composite-differential filter-assisted (CDF-SCCI) method, allowing for effectively reducing the background noise of the reconstructed image. The signal-to-background ratios of the reconstructed images by employing the CDF-SCCI method can be enhanced by a maximum of 4.15 dB (corresponding to 2.6 times) compared to the SCCI method. Furthermore, we apply the near-infrared (NIR) illumination to the imaging system of dynamic scattering media and prove that the NIR illumination not only enhances the penetration depth of imaging, but also improves the quality of reconstructed images compared to the visible illumination. The depth-resolved imaging through various dynamic biological scattering media, including the milk and anticoagulated pig blood, further demonstrates the potential application of the proposed CDF-SCCI method in biomedical imaging.

Abstract:Nano- and micro-droplets provide a platform for microanalysis of a variety of biochemical reactions with less consumption of reagents and large-extent elimination of cross-contamination, but stable generation of such monodisperse droplets with an on-demand size and repetition rate should be first established. Here, we present a simple and robust approach to generate nano/microliter (nL/mu L) droplets with predetermined size and repetition rate by using femtosecond laser filament-fabricated stainless bevel needle nozzles (BNNs). We demonstrate that hierarchically heterogeneous micro/nanostructures can be directly formed on both the inner and outer surfaces of BNNs by femtosecond laser filament processing, and that after a heat treatment the fabricated BNNs show an excellent superhydrophobic property with the water contact angle of similar to 160 degrees and the rolling-off angle of similar to 0.4 degrees. With the superhydrophobic BNNs (19-27 gauge), we produce monodisperse water droplets (2.5 mu L-87 nL) with nearly the same sizes as the needle diameters, and dispense them repeatedly with on-demand repetition rates from sub-1 Hz to more than 100 Hz over several orders of the flow rate. The results provide a new way for generating microdroplets on demand for various droplet-based applications.

Abstract:C14-alkoxy/alkyl PBTTT-OR-R, a derivative of the prototype PBTTT polymer, is relevant for optoelectronic applications because it combines PBTTT-like intercalation behavior with enhanced charge-transfer absorption at longer wavelengths. Additionally, fundamental insights are achieved by comparing this alternating conjugated polymer in the presence and absence of homocoupling defects. While the homocoupling-free oxidative variant, PBTTT-OR-R(O), as well as the Stille polymer with 19% homocoupling defects, PBTTT-OR-R(S), can both form co-crystals when stoichiometrically mixed with PC61BM, the co-crystal of the latter shows properties which are highly dependent on the thermal processing conditions because of the presence of these defects. The PBTTT-OR-R(S):PC61BM co-crystal shows a low thermal stability and PC61BM can progressively be expelled upon heating. In cooling from the melt and depending on the cooling rate, mixtures of PBTTT-OR-R(S) and PC61BM show a competition between co-crystallization (fast cooling) and separate crystallization (slow cooling). The PBTTT-OR-R(O):PC61BM co-crystal is much more stable up to at least 260 degrees C and is not influenced by the applied cooling rate. These findings also translate to the device level. The performance of PBTTT-OR-R:PC61BM photodiodes is severely deteriorated after isothermal annealing in case of PBTTT-OR-R(S), whereas the thermally robust co-crystals of PBTTT-OR-R(O) allow a more flexible design of optimized devices. PBTTT-OR-R, a C14-alkoxy/alkyl-PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge-transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT-OR-R(O) forms stable co-crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT-OR-R(S) exhibits thermal instability, affecting photodiode performance after annealing. image

Abstract:The distribution of diffuse spot energy can be used to sensitively evaluate the aberrations and defects of optical systems. Therefore, the objective and quantitative measurement of diffuse spot parameters is an important means to control the detection quality of space debris detection systems. At present, the existing optical system dispersion measurement method can only judge whether the energy distribution meets the index. However, these methods ca not provide an objective quantitative basis to guide the installation process. To solve this problem, a mathematical simulation model of 3D multi-phase sub-pixel PSF distribution is proposed. According to the relation between the CCD target plane and the theoretical image plane (focal plane, defocus, and deflection), the diffuse spot distribution of the optical system is simulated with different phase combinations. Then, Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) is used to evaluate the matching similarity of the diffuse spot image. The simulation results show that when the PCC is greater than 0.96, the distribution of the two diffuse spots can be identified as matching. This also confirms the accuracy of the proposed PSF model. Then, the focusing deviation of the system being tested can be analyzed according to the phase size of the diffuse spot simulation image. This method can quickly and accurately guide the focal surface installation and testing of the system. Therefore, the purpose of improving the detection accuracy of space debris is achieved. It also provides a quantitative basis for the engineering application of optical detection systems in the future.

Abstract:As a typical optical hard and brittle material, the efficient machining methods of glass-ceramic have always been a research hotspot. Based on previous research, this article conducted surface damage analysis on glass-ceramic using in-situ laser-assisted machining (LAM) orthogonal experimental results, and summarized that the surface damage of glass-ceramic mainly includes scratches, pits, and brittle fracture. Surface analysis confirmed that in-situ LAM can effectively reduce cutting forces and improve surface quality compared to conventional cutting. The artificial neural network (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA) were used to fit and train and conduct multi-objective optimization for the data from in-situ LAM orthogonal experiments with resultant cutting force and surface roughness as eigenvalues. The Pareto optimal front curve with multiple groups of optimal solutions was obtained through multi-objective optimization using GA. The actual in-situ LAM experimental values were compared with the predicted values in the Pareto front, the relative error of the resultant force and the relative error of the surface roughness are both very small. In-situ LAM experiments based on response surface methodology (RSM) with surface roughness as the characteristic value were conducted. The optimal machining parameters for RSM optimization, as well as the minimum values for resultant force and surface roughness were obtained. Through comparative analysis, it was found that RSM has better multi-objective optimization performance than GA. Research content of this article provides reference and guidance for the multi-objective optimization analysis method of hard and brittle materials such as glass-ceramic after LAM.

Abstract:The optical design of the nested paraboloid and hyperboloid Wolter I X-ray telescope of the eXTP satellite in the 1-8 keV band was systematically studied. The recursive relationship of nested structures is derived, and an analysis is conducted on the influence of initial parameters on performance. Considering the requirements of X-ray astronomical observation in China, we propose the initial structure of the model and design seven groups of Au/C/Ni non-periodic dual-layer coatings between the innermost and outermost layers of the mirror. The effective area, half-power diameter, and stray light were calculated in the simulation. The results show that the effective area can reach 1000 cm(2) at 2 keV, the effective area can reach 890 cm(2) at 6 keV without hub obscuration, the half-power diameter is 10 arcsec, and the proportion of stray light is 4.2%. Abstract:The Hard X-ray Imager (HXI) aboard the Advanced Space-based Solar Observatory (ASO-S) is an instrument designed to observe hard X-ray (HXR) spectra and images of solar flares. Having 91 subcollimators to modulate incident X-rays, HXI can obtain 91 modulation data and 45 visibilities to reconstruct images with a spatial resolution as high as similar to 3.1\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$\sim 3.1$\end{document} arcsec. HXI was launched on 9 October 2022 and powered up on 17 October 2022. After the on-orbit testing phase lasting for three months, HXI was ready for regular observations on 18 January 2023. With fine-tuning of the detectors and electronics, we were able to expand the energy range from similar to 30\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$\sim 30$\end{document} - 200 keV to similar to 10\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$\sim 10$\end{document} keV - 300 keV, which significantly raised the scientific values of the data and the number of detected flare events. This paper presents the changes and improvements of HXI instrument since 2019, the important ground tests, on-orbit tests, and calibration works. We also present the light curves, spectra, and reconstructed images of one flare observed by HXI on 6 January 2023.
